Make StopGame great (again?)

Hello, dear bloggers. StopGame programmer is in touch.Ru.

This is not a bug topic. If you want to post a bug, you have three options:

Create a topic in the FAQ – I also go there at least once a week + other people also monitor this section

What’s happening?

As you may have noticed here and here and here, our favorite site has entered the stage of active processing.
I entered into it so actively that six months after the redesign, I entered into the rework, but these are lyrics.

In this topic I would like to collect the wishes of the active part of the audience regarding, what do you want the site to look like in the next N years. I promise to read everything and maybe some of what I write will even be implemented.

If you have any thoughts about what conceptual changes that are not related to immediate bugs and shortcomings can be made to the operation of the site – you have come to the right place.

When should you not write

If you were going to write that the site is not doing well, then thank you, we know and are working to fix it. Whining and hate speech are counterproductive, better do something useful, and we will do something nice in return.

We work for you!

How about doing blogging together on SG?? You give someone access to your draft so that another author can view and edit it. I don’t know how popular this will be, but I think it would be an interesting feature.

True, then it would be nice to add a history of edits to them.

Well, let’s get straight to the point:

— is it possible, systematically, to assign to a blog, when publishing, the date of its publication, and not the creation of a draft??

— we need a “Complain” button for blogs. Of course, I’m a prude, but at times I really don’t have enough;

— you also need the ability to subscribe to answers in certain topics, at least in your own. Because now new comments can only be tracked there using soap.

From a more global perspective:

— continuing the topic of cooperative blog editing raised above — is it possible to create an interactive broadcast table in the schedule?? Let me explain – at the very beginning of the schedule there is a kind of “calendar”, in the form of a script, data into which is entered by the authors from a third-party source, without the need to edit the topic itself, and it is already updated by Comrade Kulakov. In my opinion, this would make the schedule more efficient than it is now;

— you give a mobile application in N years.

Nothing worthwhile comes to mind yet.

Sounds interesting and, potentially, useful even for the author’s staff. We will definitely discuss this proposal with the team.

I wrote it down before, and I’ll write it down here: the first thing that comes to mind is my live broadcast for blogs and other sections, as well as pinning with topics of important importance (questions for the ChGK, questions for my brother-in-law, schedule, this topic, etc.)

And even without the strikethroughs it’s kind of sad, eh 🙁

Oh, and even earlier, replies to comments had a very convenient arrow, which, when clicked, took you to the comment to which the reply was intended. Now, without visual symbols (before the redesign, their role was played by circles, squares, triangles, etc.) and this arrow, it is quite difficult to navigate in long discussions, especially when the indentation disappears and comments begin to run in an even column.

I don’t know what is currently planned with the feed, but it would be nice to change the answers section at the same time. Make it something like a personal “live broadcast” with the ability to monitor comments under certain topics or threads. At least under your own.

By the way, about the tape itself. Now there are several entities on the site that would be nice to track: personal blogs, collective blogs (someday . ), game page updates, and sections on the main page (news with different heading tags, for example). For each such entity, it would be possible to create something like a personal identifier, which could be added to the tracked one, so that all its posts would be displayed in the feed (obviously, for the user this is “poke – subscribed”). And polish it with a filter system by tags. For example: “subscriptions + game: Assasins Creed + author: Maxim Kulakov + video_SG: Series Stories”.

We’ve already unsubscribed to the topic of comment threads above, so I’ll add a little of my own. You can do this: to the left of each comment add nesting level indicators (dots, circles, squares – it doesn’t matter). And make it possible to collapse a branch to the desired level (like on any other site with such a system).

There is no need to return the arrow above the comment, kmk – jumping one comment at a time was not particularly convenient before. Instead, you can “select a branch” – when selected, it is trimmed to the desired comment and nesting levels are calculated from it. And limit all previous comments only to direct ancestors (I scribbled a pic in 3 minutes in Paint to make it clearer).

And here we can add the ability to track comment threads.

That is, there are 3 actions (collapse, selection, tracking) that need to be attached either to the comment itself or to the nesting indicator.

h.s. And you need to auto-collapse long threads so as not to scroll through kilometers of shit under each “discussed” news.

h.h.s. Lord, I need https://casinowinzter.co.uk/ to learn to write properly..

people have been asking for a long time to remove the rating spoiler from the top of reviews and video reviews (video reviews even have a spoiler at the top, a spoiler at the bottom, scroll like a god, or better yet, open it from YouTube)

I’m relatively new to the site and I understand that I myself am a “running hamster, leaving low effort comments with a couple of lines of text and a picture”. So I apologize in advance if I break any unwritten rule. So here are the wishes of the newfag:

Firstly: The “Broadcasts” subsection is almost completely useless. Every time I go to this subsection I see “The broadcast is over. Watch the archived recording". That is, “Broadcasts” automatically sends the user who did not have time for the live broadcast to the “Recordings” subsection. Why then we need “Broadcasts” is not clear to me, especially considering that during live broadcasts a collapsible block with the stream automatically appears on the site.

Secondly: The “Posts” subsection lacks basic sorting. On the YouTube channel there are playlists “SG ChGK”, “Retrorequest”, “Svoyak” and so on, and KEKs have a separate channel altogether. It’s not critical, of course, you can surf on YouTube, but if such sorting appears on the website, it will become more convenient.

Thirdly: You’ve already been told about the problems with the “Schedule” better than I did.

I’m sure I won’t be the first to say this, but the Questions and Answers subsection also lacks sorting, which causes a number of fairly obvious problems and makes the Resolved Questions section useless. After all, it is much easier to ask a new question and hope that they will answer you than to try to find a similar already “Solved” question.

I propose to introduce sub-subsections like: “Questions for the site administration”, “Questions for site technical support”, “Help find a game”, “Help with the passage”, “Help with hardware/software” and so on. Perhaps this will not only make the section more convenient, but will also help people get the help they want more quickly.

Again I’m missing sorting. It would be interesting to see something similar to the "Games" section. Search for blogs by filter, a slider that allows you to select the desired time period for blogs to be published.

There is often a situation where I don’t know what exactly I want to play. But I know that I want some kind of RPG or Action on the PC platform from 2008-2015. Select the necessary filters, the desired time period, sort by rating or by date – and the search gives you the results.

If you introduce a similar system of filters and search using these filters for blogs, then this will not only be a good sorting, but will also help you find previously unknown blogs, located somewhere on page 856 out of 1438, to suit your “mood.”.

I saw that this topic has already been raised: five minutes is not enough. I suggest leaving the ability to edit for at least a few hours, perhaps even forever. But so that it is like in a “school notebook” – that is, you cannot delete anything from what has already been written, just cross it out and, if desired, add next to it or a postscript what you consider necessary.

I imagine it something like this:

— I wrote “sun” and sent a comment.

— Five hours later (or five days later) I noticed an error and went to edit it.

– But instead of a regular text editor, which allows me to change the comment beyond recognition, I get an editor only with the ability to “cross out” what has already been written, that is, the sun, and write next to it in an empty field, highlighted, say, in bold italics and asterisks “sun”.

I understand that I have broken my lip and that it will be difficult or even impossible to implement something like this, but I am only suggesting, not insisting.

5. And finally, the most unpleasant thing for me is the “Rating System” with its uncontrollable disadvantages.

I understand that claims here need to be made against yourself and members of the community, and not against the site employees. This is most likely just my subjective opinion, but this system should either be abandoned altogether or radically changed, because it often carries only negativity: It’s nice to see how the author of a good blog is rewarded with a bunch of advantages. But it’s much more offensive for blog authors who are really trying to create something, and for some reason they are downvoted. Because of this, they automatically end up in the same pot with not-so-smart vagrant YouTubers who post their videos on the site just for promotion.

Let’s say you don’t want to completely abandon the system. What then needs to be changed?? At a minimum, you need to remove the bar showing the total value of the pros and cons with the conditional “+5” and replace it with two bars with pros and cons separately. In my opinion, it will be better for both the blog author and the reader if they see not the final “-7” above the blog (or comment), but the number of pluses separately from the number of minuses. Simply put, to make it like on YouTube – you can see both likes and dislikes.

But so that it is like in a “school notebook” – that is, you cannot delete anything from what has already been written, just cross it out and, if desired, add next to it or a postscript what you consider necessary.

I think it would be easier to save the original version of the comment and show it to everyone. That is:

— Wrote by sunTSe.
— Corrected the typo and everyone can see the edited comment.
— Corrected something else.
— But anyone can click on the “edited” icon and see the original version with a typo.

“Rating System” with its uncontrollable disadvantages.

The current system does not affect anything compared to the old one. You just have to learn not to take her too seriously.

But displaying the pros and cons separately is a really good idea!

I noticed that you can’t subscribe to either the site’s authors or the blog authors and track new publications. A useful function.

The game’s info card not only spoils the rating, but also forces you to scroll the page for the sake of the review itself. I think it would be more logical to move it to the end of the content, like in the news (or better yet, to the side).

1. It will definitely happen, but I can’t say with certainty when yet. The task is waiting in the wings.

2. Thank you, we’ll discuss it. I quite see the rationale for such a button, and it might make life easier for moderators.

3. Yes, yes and yes again. I will definitely do this, because I myself am burning with the fact that in order to see new comments in this topic I need to go to this page. which means you need to not forget about the existence of the topic (which I can do).

4. I also thought about the broadcast schedule, because… comrade. Kulakov is not the most efficient at laying it out. I want to take this burden off of him and put it on the streamers themselves or in other free hands, but for this I will need the right tool and the schedule itself will need to be allocated a place somewhere more visible than blogs.

5. In my distant plans, the mobile application should be released in about a year, if I can maintain the pace of work. Again, I can’t promise anything for sure, but there are plans.

In general, I already proposed something similar in the first redesign topic. By the way, thanks for the opportunity to add comments to bookmarks, sometimes useful.

Dark theme: I want it too, yes. And then at night it burns out my eyes. One problem is that I can’t control the color of branding, advertising, pictures, etc. And there may be a dark site surrounded by light advertising.

Show rating: sounds as logical as possible and as cinematic as possible.

Smarter search: it is smart enough and can search using abbreviations that are entered into the database. But not all abbreviations are included in the database and, in general, filling out the game database is still very painful, but there are far-reaching plans to fix this.

Blocking news by tags/games: that sounds interesting. I also can’t see this cyberpunk of yours anymore.

Yes, but you need to think about how to do this on a site with UGC so that the author receives his report. T.e. It won’t be possible to take a ready-made solution, you’ll have to write it yourself (however, with stopgame this is the case with almost everything).

Rewards are issued automatically, but the achievements there are so difficult that it’s impossible to get platinum. I think that we should add simpler rewards there to increase the involvement and motivation of new users (and old ones too).

My thoughts on the rating overall:

1. I would divide the rating of blogs and comments into likes and dislikes. The final rating is, of course, important for ranking, but it’s not at all clear. It is not clear what percentage of users disliked a post/comment if it was in the plus or liked it if it was in the minus. The result is that the author cannot adequately carry out the analysis.

2. I would return the cons to the profile, because now even rare trolls have a fairly high rating if they are old-timers. As a result, the profile rating means absolutely nothing. And again, divide the rating into likes and dislikes.

In short, my opinion about ratings and other things:

Social. networks have defeated forums all over the Internet and this is obvious to everyone.

A full set of features from the start is better than farming the rating in order to be able to see links (I remembered the most flawed example of a rating).

The interface needs to be made familiar to the average user. The average user understands thumbs up and down better than pluses, minuses and fractional rating numbers. (Cm. YouTube).

The number of likes/dislikes should influence exclusively the HR, the length of Galperov’s nose and the ranking in the results in the “smart feed”, if there is one.

I demand complete transparency of everything related to reviews, previews and first views!

1) When was the review copy of the game sent to you and with what important comments?.

2) Did they bring you suitcases and traveling bags; what about paid content??

Because at the moment it is not always clear whether the author in your videos expresses a sincere opinion.

Well, on a serious note, I suggest attaching a “Sponsored Content” sign to reviews if the content is truly sponsored.

This way, users will be able to easily differentiate between “Passable” review videos and “Amazing” ones.

Thanks for the ideas. Let’s think about it.

I wish I could listen to music here like on VK. I wish I was a cool messenger like in VK. I wish there were public pages like in VK))0)

(in fact, it would be very cool if replies to comments were initially hidden, and they would need to be opened like in VK. Because it’s just more convenient, or maybe I’m just stupid and can’t understand where who wrote to whom)
